There is something missing -a feeling?- in the “flat” versions…
you are right, there is something missing, but I got bored of the people in cafes style I had started on and wanted to explore something different with the color and more defined lines. I can always go back if it doesn’t work out.
Dont get me wrong: The “flats” are fine, but look less elaborate, less atmospheric.
Your people studies are wonderful, pity to discontinue.
But you can direct your attention to other topics too, eg. light & shadows, trash objects, skyscapes , …
